Anthony Ortiz
June 13, 1948 - June 17, 2012
Anthony Ortiz, 64, passed away, Sunday, June 17, 2012. He was born in New York City and attended school in Queens. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps serving during the Vietnam War. After an honorable discharge from the military, Mr. Ortiz earned a degree in criminal justice from John Jay College in New York City. While he was employed with the City of New York working in a drug and maintenance program, he met the love of his life, Lora Warner. They moved to Savannah in 1983 and Mr. Ortiz began working as a printer for International Paper. After he retired from International Paper, he became an operator with Chatham Area Transit retiring after twelve years. He was a member of Unity of Savannah and served as a big brother for many years.
Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Lora Warner Ortiz of Savannah; daughters, Melissa Saunders of Atlanta; Antoinette Gibson of Atlanta; brothers, Eluid Ortiz and his wife, Tanya of WVA; Victor Ortiz of New York, NY; Alex Ortiz of HI; Edwin Ortiz; sisters, Zoreida of The Bronx, NY; Carmen Rivera of FL; Annie Bayamon, PR; Olguita Ortiz of Flushing, NY; grandchildren, Kasai Harris of Atlanta; Walker James Tucker and sister of Atlanta; aunts, Sonya, Lucy and Tita and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 22, 2012 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.
Funeral: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 23, 2012 in the Islands Chapel of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, conducted by Reverend Arlene Meyer.
Burial: Catholic Cemetery.
